Summer 2010

We're on our holidays ...

Our classes in the UK resume in September. See you on the other side of summer!

About our Year course 2010/11

It’s eight years since Scott Williams began our part time First Year course – and seven since we launched the part time Second Year rehearsal and performance course.

Both have been extraordinarily successful. Hundreds of actors have benefitted from the consistency and depth that can only be achieved through regular commitment.

But every year, some to whom we’ve offered places have been unable to commit because a year seems like just too much – and others have, with reluctance always, dropped out because they’ve been offered jobs. We’re sorry to see them go but happy for them. After all, putting what you’ve learned into practice is what training is for!

So here’s what we’re offering for 2010/11. We’re excited by the concept – and we hope you are too.

It’s a modular course which delivers everything First Year students have experienced – but which allows you to ‘sign up’ for one, two or all three modules according to your circumstances and to pick up where you’ve left off if your circumstances change.

Here’s how it works …

We’re breaking down the First Year into three self-contained modules of eleven weeks each. As this is a rolling programme, students have the opportunity to join every three monthds.

Module 1 – Living Truthfully

Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances

Module 3 – A State of Aliveness

Living Truthfully covers our basic, Meisner-rooted Technique, giving you a deep and experiential grounding in its analysis and exercises, focusing on those which bring you into 'the moment.'

The Given Set of Circumstances takes the Technique forward into work with 'the givens' of performance, including investing in the realities of doing at the heart of any actor's work.

A State of Aliveness takes your work into text, from the first Reading and text analysis, through to rehearsal techniques, culminating in a performance of scenes for an invited audience.

Where do you begin?

Most students will begin with Module 1, Living Truthfully.

Students who have already have a body of experience within the Technique may choose to begin with either Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances – or Module 3 – A State of Aliveness, using it as a showcase opportunity.

If you wish to enter at Module 2 or 3, please contact Lindsay on Lindsay@impulsecompany.co.uk or 07525 264173.

How do you apply?

If you’re new to Impulse, get in touch with Lindsay and she’ll fix you up with an informal interview with Scott. She’ll also email you a questionnaire which you should complete and take with you to your interview.

If you’re an Impulse practitioner or an alumnus of the First Year programme, acceptance is automatic. Just get in touch with Lindsay and she’ll take you through the process.

How much does it cost?
